Ricardo Càstro

From São Roque – SP  (1972). Lives and works in Rio de Janeiro. Graduated in Architecture and Urbanism, Universidade Mackenzie (São Paulo, 1995), with specialization in Fine Arts, Fundação Armando Álvares Penteado (São Paulo, 2000). He is a visual artist, performer and creator of Abravanação – where the opening of new mental spaces is offered to individuals through bodily experiences.

His most recent work, “Cards on the Table”, was presented during the exhibitions “A Radically Condensed History of Post Industrial Life LADO A/LADO B”, curated by Daniela Castro and Zeynep Oz, SPOT (Istambul, 2016);  “After the Future“, curated by Daniela Labra, Parque Lage (Rio de Janeiro, 2016);  “Animism, Shamanism – Diving into Gaia’s Spirit”, curated Charlotte Cosson and Emmanuelle Luciani , Paradise (Marseille, 2015) and for the project “Gazua”, Largo das Artes (Rio de Janeiro, 2015).

In 2014 he was won the FOCO Bradesco ArtRio award and in the next year carried out exhibition   “Solar Adjustment“, result of the artistic residence granted by the award, curated by Bernardo José de Souza, Largo das Artes (Rio de Janeiro, 2015). Among his principal exhibitions are “Centre Table”, curated by Tobi Maier, Estúdio Álvaro Razuk (São Paulo, 2014); “Abravana Nova IorKque“, curated by Tim Goossens, TempArtSpace (NY, 2013);  “Transformer”, curated by Agnes B., La Friche Belle de Mai, Art-O-Rama (Marseille, 2013); “Transformer”, Casa Triângulo Gallery (São Paulo, 2012); “Very Rick-Passe Lá”, Casa Triângulo Gallery (São Paulo, 2008).

Participated in projects such as Totale 19 – out of shape”, curated by Jari Ortwig (Cologne 2016); “AURORA”, curated by Tim Goossens, AT&T Performing Arts Center (Dallas, 2015); “The Negative Hand”, curated by Bernardo José de Souza, Parque Lage (Rio de Janeiro, 2015);  “Summer University”, Capacete (Rio de Janeiro, 2013); “Introduction to the third world”, by artist Marilá Dardot, MAM (São Paulo, 2011); “Paço das Artes Project Season” (São Paulo, 2010); “Gamerz festival#5”, curated by Isabelle Arvers (Aix Provence, 2010); “White Cubicle”, curated by Pablo Leon Dela Barra (London, 2008); “Cover”, curated by Fernando Oliva, MAM (São Paulo, 2008).

Since 2006 has participated in collaborative actions, with pricipal artistic projects; “The Big Picture”, in partnership with stylist Dudu Bertholini for the project MOVE, curated by Cecilia Dean, SESC Belenzinho (São Paulo, 2013); Abravanation X Vomidinglberrys Movement Troup, in partnership with artist Kenny Scharf for the avaf collective, Deitch Projects (NY, 2008); “Stamina” in partnership with performer Renata Abbade and artist Agathe Snow,  Bienal de Whitney (NY, 2008); “SPEND your life loving ferociously”, in partnership with singer Cibelle  for the avaf collective, 28° Bienal of São Paulo (São Paulo, 2008); “Abra Vana Alucinete Fogo”, carried out by the avaf collective, Casa Triangulo Gallery (São Paulo, 2006).
