Carol Medeiros

Born in Niterói, lives and works in Rio de Janeiro. Graduated in Cinema / Social Communications from UFF (Universidade Federal Fluminense), she has been working with costume design for films since 2004.

Medeiros develops her work through embroidery and various textile supports, in a relation with words and symbols. She uses the thread as a materiality of connection and as a poetic instrument, exploring relations between the self and the other. The artist addresses the gender issue in her works, especially in the manual and embroidery practices, easily associated with the feminine gender.

She creates and makes shirts for By Wire, her brand of hand-embroidered shirts. She also composes, sings and plays keyboards and synthesizers in the projects Palato and Elemento Estranho and produces the event of improvisation and musical experimentation O Ruído (The Noise).

Collective exhibitions she has participated: Dissecada (2018, Marques 456 Gallery); Fio, Corpo, Terra (2017, Saracura Space); Ateliê Aberto – Sentidos do Fio (2017, Oriente Gallery); Abraço Coletivo (2017, Saracura Space).
